The collar-nightjar , ( Gactornis enarratus , Syn. : Caprimulgus enarratus ) is a bird in the family of Nightjars (Caprimulgidae).

features

The collar nightjar is a strikingly drawn bird with an owl-like face, about 24 cm tall and 54 g. There is no difference between the two sexes. The underside is gray-brown with brown-black spots, no white on the wings, with a rust-brown collar and large dark spots on the vertex.

behavior

The bird sleeps on the ground during the day, preferably in pairs. It feeds mainly on insects. The breeding season lasts from September to December with nests on ferns or low bushes, often on the edge of clearings or forest paths.

distribution and habitat

The collared nightjar belongs to the monotypical genus Gactornis and is endemic to north and east Madagascar . It is found in the tropical and subtropical rainforest of low and medium altitudes, far to the north in the dry forest .

Hazardous situation

The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
