Gadget is a Swedish grindcore band from Gävle , which was founded in 1997, disbanded in 1998 and re-founded in 1999.

history

The band was formed in 1997. The members, including William Blackmon, exchanged instruments several times at this time. After a demo was released, the early form of this band disappeared for the time being towards the end of 1998. Towards the end of 1999 the band was re-founded, at which time Blackmon was still active in the band Withered Beauty and Gadget was initially just a side project for him. Shortly afterwards, however, he concentrated completely on Gadget, although this band was initially only intended for him as a solo project. While working on the first songs, he decided to bring more members into the band, so guitarist Rikard Olsson came first to the band. Since no suitable drummer was found, Blackmon also played the drums during rehearsals. In March 2000, the duo went to the studio to record a first demo, which was distributed among friends after completion. A short time later, singer Emil Englund joined the band and went with him to the Bandylimpa studio to record a second demo. The band then took part in a split release with Exhumed and returned to the Bandylimpa studio in February 2001. In July the band went to the Blueroom studio to record songs for the samplers Polar Grinder and Swedish Assault . In the same year bassist Fredrik Nygren also joined the cast. In the spring of 2003 the band signed a contract with Relapse Records and recorded their debut album Remote in July at Phlat Planet Studios with producer Frederik Rheinedahl . The album was released in February 2004. After that, the band was already working on new songs and went to The Overlook Studios in December 2005 to record the second album, which was released in 2006 on Relapse Records under the name The Funeral March .

style

On their first album, the band played simple, aggressive grindcore, which the band expanded with a few elements on their second album. Influences from Crustcore and Doom Metal can partly be heard, the guitar riffs are partly reminiscent of stoner rock elements. The band is comparable to groups like Nasum and Pig Destroyer .
