The Gadsar Lake is a mountain lake in the western Himalayas in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
Gadsar Lake is located 45 km north-northeast of Srinagar in the Ganderbal District . The lake, located at an altitude of 3600 m , is drained to the northwest to the Nilam . It is a tourist destination. A starting point for tours to Gadsar Lake is the village of Sonamarg, 25 km east-southeast in the river valley of the Sind . The lake surface freezes in the months of December to April.
