The Gagarin Mountains ( Russian Хребет Юрия Гагарина , Norwegian Kurzfjella ) is a mountain range in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . As part of the Orvinfjella , it extends over a length of 16 km between the short and the Conrad mountains .
Norwegian cartographers mapped the formation based on aerial photographs and measurements of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). A new mapping based on aerial photographs and measurements was carried out during a Soviet Antarctic expedition carried out in 1960 and 1961. It is named after Juri Gagarin (1934–1968), the first person in space .
