The Kurzegebirge (in Norway with the Holtedahl Peaks referred to as Holtedahlfjella ) is a mountain range of mainly un-iced rock peaks and ridges in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . As part of the Orvinfjella , it extends over a length of 32 km and a width of 10 km between the Drygalskibergen in the west and the Gagarin and the Conrad mountains in the east.
The mountains were discovered and mapped using aerial photographs by participants in the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Ritscher named it after Vice Admiral Friedrich-Wilhelm Brief (1891-1945), head of the nautical department of the High Command of the Reichsmarine .
