Gaius Quintius Atticus
Gaius Quintius Atticus was a Roman suffect consul in 69.
Quintius Atticus was appointed suffect consul on November 1, 69 together with Gnaeus Caecilius Simplex . When the victorious Vespasian troops oppressed Vitellius more and more, Quintius Atticus fell from Vitellius and joined the Flavian party. Quintius Atticus fled to the Capitol with Titus Flavius Sabinus . When the Vitellians stormed the Capitol, burned down some of the buildings there, and captured and killed Flavius Sabinus, Quintius Atticus also came under their power. Brought in chains before Vitellius, he should be executed at the request of the people. But he was able to save his life by telling lies that the Capitol was set on fire on his orders. After the fall and death of Vitellius on December 20, Caecilius Simplex was ousted from office and killed. In contrast, Quintius Atticus, who had been freed from dungeon, led the Fasces as sole consul until the end of the year.
