The Gakona Glacier is a valley glacier in the northern Alaska range in Alaska ( USA ).
The Gakona Glacier has its nutrient zone on the southern flank of the Alaska range. At the foot of Mount Gakona , a spring glacier coming from the west, north and east unite to form the Gakona glacier. This flows in a southerly direction and ends after 13.7 km at an altitude of about 1100 m . The maximally 3.9 km wide glacier feeds the Gakona River , a right tributary of the Copper River . The glacier tongue of Gakona Glacier is located 19 km northeast of Paxson . The Gakona glacier is in retreat.
