The Gakona River is an approximately 100 km long right tributary of the Copper River in southern Alaska (USA).
It rises from the Gakona Glacier on the southern flank of the Alaska range , flows south and flows into the Copper River, which flows into the Gulf of Alaska at Gakona , 26 km northeast of Glennallen .
Henry Tureman Allen documented the name of the native Alaskans for the river in 1885 . RH Geoghegan recorded the name "Ga-ka-tna" in 1903 and gave the translation "Rabbit River".
