Gaku Hashimoto

Gaku Hashimoto ( Japanese 橋本 岳 , Hashimoto Gaku ; born February 5, 1974 in Sōja , Okayama Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( Nukaga faction ), and a member of the Shūgiin , the lower house of the national parliament, for the 4th. Okayama constituency.

Hashimoto, the direct descendant of MPs and ministers Ryōgo Hashimoto and Ryūtarō Hashimoto , studied at the Faculty of Environmental Information ( kankyō-jōhō-gakubu ) at Keiō University . He then completed a graduate degree in political and media research at the Keiō graduate school. He then worked from 1998 for the general Mitsubishi Research Institute ( Mitsubishi Sōgō Kenkyūjo ), a joint think tank of several Mitsubishi companies.

In 2005 he left the company and ran for the Shūgiin election in 2005 in the constituency of Okayama 4 to succeed his father. He was defeated by the Democrat Michiyoshi Yunoki , but was able to win a proportional election seat of the Liberal Democrats in Chūgoku with a relatively narrow constituency defeat. In 2009 he missed re-election in the proportional representation block with a clearer defeat and left the Shūgiin. In the nationwide defeat of the Democrats in the Shūgiin election in 2012 , Hashimoto was able to prevail against Yunoki for the first time. In 2014 it was confirmed with an absolute majority.

In August 2016, Hashimoto became State Secretary ( fuku-daijin , "Vice Minister", formerly mostly "Senior Vice Minister", currently "State Minister") at the MHLW in a cabinet reshuffle .
