The Galatasaray Istanbul water polo team was first played by Galatasaray students in the years after 1910 and was introduced to Turkey. On Kurucesme Island, water polo became a game and training ground, and in 1968 a swimming pool was opened in Kalamis, where from now on all of the club's water sports are based.

In the Turkish water polo league, which has existed since the 1950s, one was twice champion in 1955 and 1957, after longer years in the 1970s (1973, 1975 and 1977) three times. There was a 14-year hiatus until 1991.

In 1988 the Hungarian Zoltan Gulyas became a coach, who placed great emphasis on the young players and increased the level considerably, so that Olympic athletes soon emerged. The men's A team has been champion 12 times since 1991 and also achieved impressive placements in European competitions.

During this period, the performance of the national team increased, both in the European and the Balkan championships. In recent years, the Galatasaray players have made it into the top 16 of the top European teams, even if at the beginning of the "European adventure", for example. T. had given hard defeats. At the moment the team is between 9th and 12th place in the European ranking.

In the 2007/08 season, the team became Turkish champions without defeat. It was the 14th championship in the club's history.
