Galaxy Records is an American jazz - and blues - label .

History of the record label

The record label Galaxy Records was founded in 1951 as a sub-label of Fantasy Records . It was reactivated several times; after first being a jazz label, it was run as a gospel and rhythm and blues label in 1961 . As a jazz label, it last achieved reputation from 1978 to the mid-1980s, when mainly recordings by Tommy Flanagan and Art Pepper appeared there. Galaxy also released albums by Nat Adderley , Chet Baker , Ron Carter , Stanley Cowell , Red Garland , Johnny Griffin , Roy Haynes , Hank Jones , Philly Joe Jones , Shelly Manne , Ira Sullivan and Cal Tjader during this period .
