Galeazzo II Visconti (* around 1320; † August 4, 1378 ) from the Visconti family was the second son of Stefano Visconti . When the family was divided up after the death of Cardinal Giovanni Visconti in 1354, he got Pavia .

Life

Galeazzo was distinguished and handsome, a patron of Francesco Petrarcas , founder of the University of Pavia and a gifted diplomat. On September 10, 1350 he married Bianca Maria von Savoyen († December 31, 1387), the daughter of Count Aimone, and had two children with her.

After a long siege, Galeazzo II conquered Pavia in 1359 , which became the seat of his court.

Galeazzo's son and successor Gian Galeazzo Visconti (1351-1402) married Isabelle in 1360, daughter of King John II of France. His daughter Violante Visconti married Lionel, Duke of Clarence , a son of King Edward III of England in 1368 . which cost the Viscontis a dowry of 200,000 gold florins . After his death in 1368, she married two more times.
