In 2007 it was decided to modernize the station and its forecourt. For this, the bus station on the forecourt and ul. Dworcowa had to be relocated under the building. The investment totaled € 240 million and was provided by PKP , the Spanish Neinver Group and the investment fund manager Meyer Bergman. The preparatory work began in July 2010, and in December of the same year the demolition of the pedestrian overpass over Plac Wilhelma Szewczyka and the station building began. The foundation stone for the project was laid on May 31, 2011. The complex includes the train station building, an underground bus station, a multiplex cinema and 250 shops. The new station concourse was put into operation on October 29, 2012, and the subsequent “Galeria Katowicka” shopping mall was opened on September 18, 2013. The bus station has been in operation since February 2013. In 2014 the building received two awards at the CEE Real Estate Quality Awards in the categories “Building of the Year” and “Retail Development”.

A planned office building belonging to the complex is due to be completed in 2015. The design of the building was changed several times, it should cover an area of 14,000 m². The construction period should be 16 months, construction should only begin when enough tenants have been found.
