The Multikino SA is the second largest multiplex cinema operators in Poland. The company belongs to the Warsaw ITI Group and opened Poland's first multiplex cinema in Poznan . Today, 21 cinemas with 186 halls are operated in Poland under the “Multikino” brand.

history

A joint venture between ITI Cinema and the British United Cinemas International (UCI) was founded in 1996 under the company Multikino Sp. Z oo . In 1998 Multikino opened the first multiplex cinema in Poland in Poznan. In the following year, Multikino opened the first multiplex in the Polish capital in the Ursynów district . In 2004 ITI took over the shares of the UCI in the company and thus became the sole owner. In 2007 a multi-cinema opened in the newly built Warsaw shopping center Złote Tarasy . This cinema was created with an extraordinary design and is embedded in an adventure world including bars and lounges. Also in 2007, Dolby 3D Digital Cinema technology was introduced and the legal form of the company was converted into a stock corporation. In February 2008, an agreement was reached with Apollo Real Estate Funds to take over their Silver Screen multiplex chain . By taking over the smaller chain, Multikino SA was able to consolidate its position as one of the two largest cinema operators in Poland (alongside its main competitor Cinema City ). In addition to the classic cinema business, the company also offers entertainment formats for sports lovers, music lovers and children. She also runs the “Cava Blanca” film café chain. In mid-2010 the first cinema abroad was opened - in Riga , Latvia . In October 2010, the opening of a multiplex cinema in Wilno , Lithuania . The largest multi-cinema complex to date is located in Zabrze, Poland .

Since the first multiplex cinema in Poland was opened under the brand "Multikino", the term "Multikino" has partly established itself in Poland as a generic term for multiplex cinemas.

In addition, the construction of eleven more multi-cinema systems in the cities of Bełchatów , Gdynia, Kraków, Leszno , Łomża , Olsztyn , Opole , Poznan, Słupsk , Stettin and Warsaw are planned by the end of 2013 .
