Theodor Fischer (born February 27, 1878 in Lucerne ; † June 5, 1957 ) was a Swiss art dealer .

Life

Theodor Fischer was actually a trained teacher. He first worked at the Bosshard gallery in Lucerne, then at Paul Cassirer in Berlin. In 1907 he opened the Fischer Gallery in Lucerne , and in the 1920s there was also a branch in Berlin. From 1921 the company also held art auctions.

On June 30, 1939, Fischer carried out a large auction on behalf of the German government with objects removed from German collections in the course of the campaigns against “ Degenerate Art ”. He was one of the central figures in the trade in Nazi-looted art in Switzerland. a. Business with Karl Haberstock , Walter Andreas Hofer , Hans Posse Hans Wendland and Karl W. Bümming .

His two sons Arthur (1905–1981) and Paul Fischer (1911–1976) also worked in the business and took over the company after his death. Today it is continued by his grandson Kuno Fischer (* 1973).
