Gallery (Angus)

Gallery , also Gallery House , is a mansion near the Scottish town of Marykirk in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. Furthermore, the associated gardens, the sundial and the former coach house are classified as Category B buildings. The west gate, on the other hand, is a Category C structure.

Gallery is around 1.5 km west of Marykirk, which is already in Aberdeenshire , near the right bank of the North Esk river . The masonry of the original Lairdhaus , built in 1680, consists of quarry stone , but is plastered with Harl , with natural stone details being set off. The year of construction is stored on a coat of arms plate, which is embedded above the profiled entrance door on the north-east facing main facade. The five-axis-wide facade of the three-story mansion is symmetrical. Slender towers with a pyramid roofs flank the facade. The rear facade is four axes wide. The masonry of the south wing, built in 1743, consists of stone blocks.

Other structures

A quarry stone wall with a decorative brick band surrounds the 18th century gardens north of the manor house. On the south side, a fence borders the gardens, which ends at rusticated pillars with perched falcon sculptures, which form an access gate. The sundial made in 1798 is in the gardens . It is designed in the form of a baluster . The simple coach house west of the gardens was built in 1743. A gate with an elliptical arch leads inside. The year of construction is indicated on the keystone of the arch. The west gate, about 350 meters west of the manor, was built in the mid-19th century. Balls sit on its rusticated stone posts.
