Galo González Díaz

Galo González Díaz (born February 22, 1894 in Nogales , Región de Valparaíso , † March 8, 1958 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean politician and trade unionist .

Life

From 1917 to 1929 González Díaz worked as an unskilled worker in the copper mines, and later as a port worker in Valparaíso . In 1925 he organized a union of Chilean transport workers and became its general secretary. In 1927 he joined the Communist Party of Chile ( Spanish Partido Comunista de Chile , PCCh). From 1929 to 1930 he was secretary for organizational issues of the party committee in Valparaíso. In 1930 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile. From 1930 to 1932 he headed the transport workers' union and was also a member of the National Council of the Federación Obrera de Chile (FOCH). From 1934 to 1946 he led the cadre control commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile. From 1940 to 1949 he edited the theoretical and political journal of the Central Committee, Principios . From 1946 to 1949 he was secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile for organizational questions, and from 1949 to 1958 he was general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile.
