Galvai
The Galvai , also Galvey, Galbay, Galbai, was a German volume measure for salt and grain . The measure had spread in Bavaria and belonged to the old Bavarian hollow measures. In the late Middle Ages, a galve or galvai was reckoned to be around 74.1 to 74.3 liters in Munich . Use in Tyrol is known from measurements.
- Munich 4 Galvai = 1 load of salt (1 load of 297 liters)
- 14 Galvei 1 wagon load = 28 Metzen salt
- Augsburg 1 wagon load = 5 loads of salt
In addition to salt and grain, the measure was also used for sand in conjunction with other measures. Here were
- 1 carrying = ½ galbei
- 12 wear = 1 Chretzen
