The Galwan is a river in the Aksai Chin region in the Union Territory of Ladakh , in a highland region on the western edge of Tibet , northeast of Kashmir . The area is under Chinese control but is claimed by India . It flows into the Shyok , a tributary of the Indus . It is named after its discoverer Ghulam Rasool Galwan (1878–1925).
