The Gambia International Airlines , often abbreviated as GIA , is a Gambian handling company based in Banjul . Between 2000 and 2005 it was also the national airline of the state. The ownership rights of the company are 99 percent with the Gambian state and one percent with the Gambia Telecommunications Company , which in turn is owned by the Gambia state.
history
The airline was founded on January 23, 1996 and started operations on March 1, 1996. The company initially only acted as a handling company at Banjul International Airport , but later expanded the business area to include active flight service. In cooperation with Air Namibia , the first flight took place on December 1, 2000.
In 2005, the airline no longer owned its own aircraft and concentrated on handling passengers and cargo at the airport. Active flight service was then discontinued in 2007, and the company continues to operate as a handling company.

In 2004 the company flew a Boeing 737-200 and a Boeing 737-800 . This machine was abolished almost a year later. The company then used aircraft types such as the Fokker F28 and Antonov An-22 for cargo air traffic .
