Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency ( GIEPA ) is a Gambian agency that aims to promote foreign direct investment in the Gambia.

The agency's primary goal is to increase foreign direct investment. This is to be done by promoting the Gambia as a location and promoting and supporting companies. In addition, Gambian exports are to be facilitated. The agency should be the first point of contact for planned investment projects.

The agency is based on Kairaba Avenue in Serrekunda. GIEPA is a member of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA).

history

The predecessor of GIEPA was the Gambia Investment Promotion and Free Zones Agency ( GIPFZA ) , which was previously dissolved . This was brought into being by Parliament in 2001 with The Gambia Investment Promotion Act and The Gambia Free Zones Act and had a similar objective as GIEPA later.

Based on a parliamentary resolution in April 2010, GIEPA was founded with effect from July 1, 2010. For financial reasons, GIEPA was only able to start work in March 2011.

management

Similar to GIPFZA before, GIEPA has a nine-member Board of Directors , which consists of four representatives from the private sector, four representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and the Office of the President , as well as the Chief Executive Officer of GIEPA.
