The Gambia Muslim Congress (GMC) ( German  Gambian Muslim gathering ) was a political party in Gambia .

history

It was founded in January 1952 in the British colony of Gambia as the second political party. It emerged from the Bathurst Young Muslims Society and other small associations under the leadership of Ibrahima Momodou Garba-Jahumpa .

It saw itself as a combination of religious affiliation and political activity. The party was unsuccessful in this regard. Garba-Jahumpa worked with the colonial administration and an elected member in a forerunner of parliament. In retrospect, however, this collaboration damaged the party's reputation.

Before the general election in 1960 , the GMC merged with the Gambia Democratic Party (GDP) under the leadership of Reverend John Colley Faye to form the new Democratic Congress Alliance (DCA).

Political differences between Garba-Jahumpa and Faye led to the early dissolution of the DCA. Garba-Jahumpa continued his way into the newly founded Gambia Congress Party (GCP).
