The parliamentary elections in British Gambia in 1954 took place in the West African British colony of Gambia in 1954. These elections were for four elected seats in the Legislative Council ( English Legislative Council ), a forerunner of the House of Representatives ( English House of Representatives ).

The seats were won by Pierre Sarr N'Jie , John Colley Faye , Ibrahima Momodou Garba-Jahumpa and Henry A. Madi .

Electoral process and districts

It was the third time that representatives were elected to the Legislative Council.

The number of constituencies in was unchanged from the 1951 election . The city of Bathurst (the former name of Banjul) became three members and the combo-St. Mary Area (also known as the British Combo) directly elected a member .

The protectorate was not involved in these elections.

Election preparation

Before the election, the United Party (UP) was founded in 1952 under the leadership of Pierre Sarr N'Jie . The Bathurst Young Muslims Society (BYMS) became the Gambia Muslim Congress (GMS) under the leadership of Ibrahima Momodou Garba-Jahumpa . John Colley Faye ran again for the Gambia Democratic Party (GDP). Before the election, the Gambian People's Party was founded by George St. Clair Joof .
