Regional elections in Gambia 2002
The regional elections 2002 ( English 2002 Local Government Election ) in the West African state of Gambia took place on April 25, 2002.
The election was boycotted by the largest opposition party, the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Election to the city, municipality and regional councils
The regional elections included the city council elections for the Banjul City Council , municipal council elections for the Kanifing Municipal Council, and the regional council elections for the Basse Area Council , Brikama Area Council , Janjanbureh Area Council , Kerewan Area Council , Kuntaur Area Council and Mansakonko Area Council .

Banjul City Council

In the elections in Banjul Administrative Area was City Council of Banjul , the Banjul City Council , newly elected. For the chief, the mayor ( English Lord Mayor of Banjul ), 7,617 votes of 14,961 voters were given one vote was invalid. The voter turnout was 50.9%. The non-party candidate Pa Sallah Jeng was elected .
Among the city council members from eight constituencies, there was only one election in one constituency, seven candidates won a seat on the city council without opposing candidates. All eight city council members belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), including Mam Sai Njie Sanneh .

In the elections in the Kanifing Administrative Area was council of the municipality Kanifing , the kanifing Council , newly elected. For its head, the Lord Mayor ( English Lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipal ), only one candidate was put up. With this, the candidate of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) Abdoulie Conteh became mayor.
The municipal council members from 17 constituencies were elected in nine constituencies, eight candidates won a seat on the municipal council without opposing candidates. Eleven parish councilors belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), the other six were non-party.

Thus, the candidate of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) Ahmed Gibril Jassy became head of the council.
Among the council members from 24 constituencies there was one election in two constituencies, 22 candidates won a seat in the regional council without opposing candidates. 22 council members belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), the other two were non-party.

The turnout was 37.2%. The candidate of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) MFS Malang Saibo Camara was elected .
Among the council members from twelve constituencies there was one election in five constituencies, seven candidates won a seat on the regional council without opposing candidates. Nine council members belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), one of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) and two council members are non-party.

Among the council members from ten constituencies, there was one election in eight constituencies, two candidates won a seat on the regional council without opposing candidates. Seven council members belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) and three to the National Reconciliation Party (NRP).

The turnout was 43.1%. The candidate of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) Kanimang Sanneh was elected .
Among the council members from 14 constituencies there was an election in one of the constituencies, 13 candidates obtained a seat on the regional council without opposing candidates. All 14 council members belong to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC).
