The 2001 presidential elections in Gambia took place on October 18, 2001. According to an estimate, Gambia had 1,412,663 inhabitants in 2001.

After his first term in office in the West African state of Gambia, Yahya Jammeh ran again after five years as a presidential candidate in a democratic election .

Of the 450,706 previously registered voters, 404,343 votes were cast, making the turnout 89.71 percent. Jammeh was elected president for another five years with 52.8 percent of the vote.
