Sidia Jatta

Sidia Sana Jatta (also with the spelling Sedia Jatta ) (* 1945 ) is a Gambian politician and party leader of the People's Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS). He works as an editor for the Foroyaa newspaper .

Sidia Jatta, a trained educationalist, founded the PDOIS party in 1986 and became its elected chairman in December 1987. He ran as a presidential candidate in the 1992 and 1996 elections , but won only a few votes (1992: 5.2%; 1996: 2.9 %), even in the 2001 presidential elections he was only able to achieve 2.9% of the vote.

In the 1997 parliamentary elections , he was successful for his Wuli district, gaining 48.9% of the vote. He was able to repeat this success in 2002 . For the 2007 parliamentary elections , PDOIS joined the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) coalition , with Jatta occupying one of the seats.

With his entry into parliament he is an energetic critic of the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party.

From 2006 to 2009 he was a member of the board of the women's rights organization GAMCOTRAP .

Sidia Jatta is the brother of Kemo Jatta (around 1935; † 2015), Seyfo for the Gambian district of Wuli West.
