The regional elections in 2018 ( English 2018 Local Government Election ) in the West African country Gambia took place in two rounds on April 12, 2018 and on May 12, 2018th

Election to the city, municipality and regional councils

The regional elections included the city council elections for the Banjul City Council , municipal council elections for the Kanifing Municipal Council, and the regional council elections for the Basse Area Council , Brikama Area Council , Janjanbureh Area Council , Kerewan Area Council , Kuntaur Area Council and Mansakonko Area Council . The council members were elected in the first ballot and the heads of the councils in the second ballot. There were over 400 candidates for the 120 seats on the councils.

There were 302,528 votes for council members out of 886,578 voters in April. The voter turnout was 34.1%. There were 257,506 votes for the heads of the councils from 886,578 voters in May. The turnout was 29.0%. Nationwide, the United Democratic Party (UDP) received the most votes.

In the elections in Banjul Administrative Area was City Council of Banjul , the Banjul City Council , newly elected. For its head, the Lord Mayor ( English Lord Mayor of Banjul ), 10,764 votes from 22,731 voters were cast. The voter turnout was 47.3%. The candidate of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Rohey Malick Lowe was elected , she is the first directly elected woman in Gambia in this office.
