history

GameFAQs was founded in 1995 by Jeff "CJayC" Veasey as a Video Game FAQ Archive. A year later, the site was renamed GameFAQ. At the time, the page contained fewer than 1000 FAQs.

In 1997 GameFAQs became an independent partner of Imagine Games Network (IGN) . During this time the user competitions were introduced. The first tests with discussion forums followed towards the end of 1999. In August 2000, 1 million views were measured for the first time in one day. In 2001 the collaboration with IGN was finally ended.

In 2003, the website was sold to CNET for $ 2.2 million. This was followed by a merger with the discussion forums at GameSpot , another website that also belongs to CNET. CNET was again taken over in 2008 by CBS Corporation .

Technical details

The walkthroughs, cheats and reviews are mainly recorded in text format . It is also possible to use graphics, e.g. B. for maps or screenshots . The discussion forums also essentially only support the text format.
