Superior ganglion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A superior ganglion ( upper ganglion ), in animals as ganglion proximal designated, is in the ninth. and X. cranial nerves before. It is mostly still in the skull capsule or directly in the exit point ( foramen jugular ) of these nerves. Both nerves then pass through an inferius ganglion (distal), which is usually larger than the upper one. These ganglia correspond to the spinal ganglion of a spinal nerve , in them the cell bodies of the sensitive neurons are located .

Superius ganglion (proximal) of the glossopharyngeal nerve

In the upper ganglion of the IX. The cranial nerve contains the cell bodies of the sensitive neurons of this nerve, which convey temperature, tactile and pain sensations in the throat and tongue .

Superior (proximal) ganglion of the vagus nerve

The cell bodies of the general somatic afferents , i.e. those sensitive neurons for temperature, tactile and pain sensations in the dura mater , auditory canal and larynx, are also located in the upper ganglion of the Xth cranial nerve . The upper ganglion of the Xth cranial nerve is also known as the jugular ganglion .
