The Gantry Plaza State Park is in New York City situated State Park . The park is located on the west side of Queens on the East River and offers a good view of Manhattan across the street .

history

Originally about ten hectares in size, the park was opened in May 1998 and expanded by six hectares in July 2009. The southern part of the park emerged from an old port area, and there are still several portal cranes here today .

Before the park was built, there was a Pepsi bottling plant in the northern part of today's area .

There is plenty of seating, fishing piers, and a boardwalk within the park. The 37-long and 18-meter-high Pepsi advertising sign that was left over from the Pepsi production facility, which used to be on the production hall, was re-erected in the park and is now the park's landmark.

Trivia

The Gantry Park has so far been seen in two films. The park had its first "appearance" in the film Munich , in which the view of Manhattan served as the last scene of the film. The park had the second and so far last appearance in The Interpreter , when Silvia Broome, played by Nicole Kidman , adopted the character of Sean Penn , Tobin Keller, on a fence in the park.

The park also appears in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV .
