Gape is an Australian brutal and slam death metal band from Hobart that was formed in 2011.

history

The band was formed in early 2011 and consisted of singer Rick "Rockstar" Ring, guitarists Tim "TJ Quim Quimby" Ikin and Sam "Blue Cheese" Bryant, bassist Rod "Ram Rod" McAllister and drummer Patrick "Pat the Rat “Neumayer. In 2012 the self-titled debut album was released. After the 2016 split release Quinte Essentials of Brutality Vol.1 with Corprophemia , Cuff , Urethral Injection and Infected Cadaver via CDN Records , the label's second album Exploit the Moist followed in 2017 .

style

Brian Giffin assigned the band to Brutal Death Metal in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal . Mitch Booth from metalobsession.net found the self-titled debut album to be typical Slam and Brutal Death Metal, which, however, usually lacks energy and groove . Most of the songs are hardly memorable, using "dirty" samples , standard Death Metal riffs and deep guttural vocals . Kyle McGinn from deadrhetoric.com noticed the absurd texts about gore and sex in Exploit the Moist . He assigned the music to Brutal Death Metal, whereby the group was too fixated on the placement of the slams than on the actual song. Otherwise the band also use the genre-typical extremely deep growls and high screams , groovy riffs and samples at the beginning of many songs. The latter, like the lyrics, usually have a silly character. In contrast to many of their genre colleagues, the group doesn't lapse into very fast passages too often, but is sometimes more oriented towards Death 'n' Roll .
