Groundwater- fed quarry pond

Template: Infobox See / Maintenance / EVIDENCE-MAX-DEPTH

The Garchinger See is a groundwater-fed quarry pond that was created between 1936 and 1938 when gravel was extracted for the motorway towards Nuremberg . The lake came into the possession of the city of Garching near Munich in 1965 and was expanded into a bathing and recreation area in the following years. The lake is around 390 meters long and 120 meters wide and up to 5 meters deep.

Redevelopment

30,000 cubic meters of mud and 70,000 cubic meters of gravel and sand were removed from the lake in 2003 and 2004 as part of a rehabilitation process. During this renovation, the green areas were also newly laid out and the bushes around the lake were thinned out. A hiking and supply path around the lake was also newly created.

Freetime activities

Since the renovation in 2003, the water quality of the swimming lake has been very good. A DLRG rescue station ensures the safety of bathers . There is also a kiosk, a children's playground and numerous recreational sports facilities on the lake. The Garching Sports Park is located near Lake Garching.

The Garching lake has been leased by the city of Garching to the fishing association and is maintained by them in order to maintain a species-rich and healthy fish population. The city of Garching annually awards a certain number of day tickets for fishing in the lake to Garching citizens who are not members of the association. The prerequisite for acquisition is proof of having passed a fishing test.
