Garci Sánchez de Badajoz (* around 1450 - 1460 in Écija ; † around 1526 ) was a Spanish songwriter and musician.

Little is known about the precise living conditions of Sánchez de Badajoz. It is believed that he was born between 1450 and 1460. Since his presence at the court of Charles V was last recorded in the Chronicle of Francisco de Zúñigas for the year 1525, it is assumed that this date is shortly before his death. He married María de Orellana , with whom he had a daughter who was also called María.

His songs have come down to us in various collections of songs, for example in Hernando de Castillas Cancionero general de muchos e diversos autores (Valencia, 1511) and in Cancionero de poesías varias, written between 1568 and 1571 . In addition to love poems and poems with religious content, the only work that can be assigned to a specific date is a poem on the death of John of Aragon and Castile and, with Liçiones de Job, a parody of the biblical book of Job, which was included in the list of works prohibited by the Inquisition .

The reception of his work was very different and ranged from the unqualified praise of Juan de Valdés to the rejection as an example of the decline of courtly song poetry by Cristóbal de Castillejo . In any case, his poems were still present throughout the 16th century. His work as a musician attracted less attention, although Jerónimo Román described him in his book Repúblicas del mundo as the most important vihuela player of his time.
