The Garden Bridge , also known as Frew's Bridge , is an arched stone bridge over the River Aray in Scotland . It is located on the grounds of Inveraray Castle , which itself is about 250 meters south. The Aray flows into Loch Fyne about 500 m in a southeast direction north of Inveraray . There it is spanned by the Aray Bridge , which is also listed and on which the A83 runs. The Garden Bridge is a link between the various areas of the Inveraray Castle grounds.

The Garden Bridge was likely completed in 1761. As an architect, John Adam was responsible for the planning. The name Frew's Bridge is derived from the name of the construction company. In 1971 the Garden Bridge was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

description

The bridge is made of ashlar and has only a single elliptical arch. The roadway is bordered on both sides by a balustrade . At both ends of the bridge there are pairs of semicircular bulges, along which the balustrades are led and then end. The access ramps are limited by a simple stone parapet. Today there are passages sealed with masonry in the two arched corners. There are footpaths on both sides below the ramps. The entrances are decorated with Doric columns .
