Gardie House Cottage

The Gardie House Cottage is a cottage on the Scottish Shetland island of Bressay . As an outbuilding, it belongs to the manor house Gardie House , which lies around a hundred meters to the southeast. In 1977 the cottage was added to the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

The building was constructed around 1820 and dates from a time when Gardie was completely renovated and expanded. The cottage itself was then expanded around 1880 and was given its current appearance. The one-story building has a converted attic. It is constructed symmetrically and has neo-Gothic elements. The foundation consists of exposed quarry stone , while the facades are otherwise traditionally plastered with Harl . The front faces west. The entrance area is located there in a small porch with a gable roof . Faschen frame the flanking windows with pointed arches . Only a single window is installed on the back of the building. On the right is the rear wing, which was added in 1880. The roofs are covered with gray-purple slate. The building is surrounded by a stone wall.
