Gareth Edwards (* 1975 ) is a British film director , screenwriter , cameraman and producer . He became famous for the independent film Monsters from the year 2010 , his first feature film , for which he wrote the screenplay. For his camera work, production design and visual effects, he received the Evening Standard British Film Award in 2011 for “Best Technical or Artistic Achievement”.
From March 2013 he directed the 3D film Godzilla , which premiered worldwide in May 2014.
On May 22, 2014, it was announced that Edwards is slated to direct a single, standalone Star Wars film. The film, titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story , was released in December 2016. Filming began in August 2015.
