Yan Lei

Yan Lei ( Chinese  颜 磊 , Pinyin Yán Lěi ; * 1965 in Langfang ) is a Chinese artist . He lives in Beijing and Hong Kong .

In 1982, Yan graduated from the Hebei School for Arts and Crafts . Subsequently, he studied at the Chinese University of the Arts in Hangzhou until 1991 .

Yan's works cover a wide spectrum, he has already worked with performance art , photography, painting, sculptures and installations. He uses these means to "mock and question" the role of the artist.

Yan's works have been featured in group shows in France, Italy, China, Belgium, Brazil, South Korea, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, and the United States. There are also solo exhibitions, for example in the Aspen Art Museum (2008) and the Galerie Loft (2002). He also took part in documenta 12 and dOCUMENTA (13) .

In 2002 he received the Chinese Contemporary Art Award .
