The Chinese University of the Arts (Chin. 中国 美术 学院, Pinyin : Zhōngguó měishù xuéyuàn , short names : Zhōngguó měishù or Zhōngměi ) is located in the city of Hangzhou in China. As a high-ranking university and school of fine arts, it reports directly to the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China . It was the first institution to provide formal education for undergraduates and students in the fine arts, and the origin of high-level education in the fine arts in China.

History and Mission of the Chinese College of Arts

The college was founded in 1928 by the renowned educator Cai Yuanpei with the aim of replacing religion with the fine arts in war- torn China. With this in mind, the university has sponsored numerous well-known and influential artists. Xu Jiang hopes that in the new millennium, the college will become one of the most outstanding art institutions in the world and attract artists to experience China's rich heritage.

According to a greeting from President Xu Jiang on its 80th anniversary, the “Chinese University of the Arts” has the most comprehensive range of fine arts in China. Theory and practice are to be integrated, with a focus on human care and social needs. Both modern technical and cultural structures and traditional artistic disciplines serve as means. Accordingly, the theory of fine arts, architecture, film and new media are explored.

Structure of the Chinese College of Arts

The “Chinese University of the Arts” comprises eight faculties, each with Ph.D. degrees in the fields of fine arts, design, architecture, new media and film. , Masters and Bachelor degrees awarded.

There are currently 7,000 students and 800 lecturers within the four university departments.

Nanshan Campus (Chinese 南山 校区)

Academy of Fine Arts

The Academy of Fine Arts is located on the Nanshan Campus. Rector: Xǔ Jiāng (President of the Chinese University of the Arts, chin .: 许 江), Vice- Rector: Wáng Zàn (chin .: 王 赞). This academy comprises the following departments:

Chinese-German Art Academy (chin. 中国 美术 学院 · 中德 学院)

The “Chinese-German Art Academy” is a cooperation between the “Chinese University of the Arts” in Hangzhou and the “ University of the Arts Berlin (UdK)”. The reference point for the establishment of the CDK is the stay of the important painter Lin Fengmian in Berlin in 1922, who was the first president of the Chinese University of the Arts (1928–1938).

The administrative office of the Chinese-German Art Academy, 1B-411 on the Nanshan campus of the Chinese University of the Arts in Hangzhou is responsible.

Xiangshan Central Campus (Chinese 象山 中心 校区)

The “Academy for Visual Art” with the departments “ Applied Art ”, “ Art Design ” and “ Avant-garde in Fine Arts” is located on this campus .

Zhangjiang Campus in Shanghai

The Zhangjiang Campus of the "Chinese Academy of Art" was founded in 1997. It is located in the "Zhangjiang High-Tech Area, Pudong , Shanghai". The campus houses the Shanghai Institute for Design and is part of the "Chinese University of the Arts".

The area in Chūnxiǎo Lu 109 (chin .: 春晓 路 109 号) covers 60 mu = 4 ha. There are classrooms, meeting rooms and residential buildings. In the six areas represented

  • visual communication (chin. shìjuéchuándá 视觉 传达)
  • Shaping the environment (Chinese: huánjìng yìshù shèjì 环境 艺术 设计)
  • Industrial design (Chinese gōngyèshèjì 工业 设计)
  • Multimedia and Internet design (chin. Duōméitǐ 多媒体; wǎngyè shèjì 网页 设计)
  • Textiles and clothing
  • Painting (for the design of the urban landscape ; chin. Chéngshì jǐngguān zàoxíng yìshù 城市 景观 造型艺术)

1200 people are employed (teachers, students and workers).

International College of the Chinese College of Arts

The “International College” runs academic programs for foreign students who do not live in China. It also promotes international academic exchange in the field of art. Three curricula offer courses in Chinese painting , calligraphy, and language and culture. In addition, courses in oil painting, printing, media art, sculpture, art history, design and architecture are offered to international students. There are also short-term courses for foreigners in Chinese culture and art .

The contact details can be found in 2013 on a website of the Confucius Institute , where 1980 is stated as the year of foundation. This indicates a change in responsibility for the International College.
