Gariep (Municipality)

Gariep ( English Gariep Local Municipality ) was a local municipality in the Joe Gqabi district of the South African province of Eastern Cape . The seat of the municipal administration was in Burgersdorp . Their territory was incorporated into the newly formed local congregation Walter Sisulu in August 2016 .

The municipality was named after the Griqua word for the Orange River on which the municipality was located.
