Garnier is a brand for cosmetic products from the French L'Oréal group. It focuses on products for skin , body and hair care . Garnier is now the second strongest L'Oréal brand after L'Oréal Paris .

Garnier was founded in 1904 by Alfred Amour Garnier. He worked as a hairdresser and perfumer at the end of the 19th century and invented a hair care lotion at the beginning of the 20th century , which he patented on June 2, 1904 under the name Garnier. In 1909 Garnier sold his company.

At the end of the First World War , Garnier had transformed from a small, manual production company into the Institut Garnier and from 1929 operated under the name Laboratoires Garnier . At the time, the company was headed by Bernard Guilpin, a chemist, and Gaston Roussel, a doctor and founder of the pharmaceutical laboratory Roussel Uclaf (now part of sanofi-aventis ).

The product range has been expanded more and more over the years. In the early 1960s, Garnier launched the first hair dye for personal use. In 1965, Garnier was taken over by its direct competitor L'Oréal and expanded. Garnier Germany is also an official partner (here: partner brand ) of the dm drugstore chain.

The L'Oréal Group's production facility , which also produces Garnier products, is located in Karlsruhe .
