Garrison Starr (born April 29, 1975 in Hernando , Mississippi ) is an American musician , singer and record producer . Her greatest success is the track Superhero from her album Eighteen Over Me .

Born Julia Garrison Starr, daughter of Walt and Julie Starr, she graduated from the Evangelical Christian School in Nemphis in 1993. She then attended the University of Mississippi from 1993 to 1994. Inspired by her father's taste in music, she studied at the age of 13 Playing guitar. She then played riffs and melodies from different sources and wanted to combine them. In high school in 7th grade, she and a classmate started a guitar duo called Indigo Girls . During her visit to the university, she realized that she didn't want to learn anything there, but should rather pursue a career as a musician. She began performing in cafes in the Memphis area, released a solo album in 1993 and worked as a backup singer from 1995. From 1995 to 1996 Starr worked as an assistant at Ardent Records. In 1996 she signed a contract with Geffen Records and in 1997 moved to Porch Records.
