The Garden of the Reclaimed Moon ( Chinese  得 月 园 , Pinyin Déyuèyuán ) is the largest Chinese garden in Europe and is part of the Gardens of the World in the Berlin district of Marzahn .

history

The garden is an initiative of the Berlin film producer and China connoisseur Manfred Durniok as part of the twinning Berlin - Beijing back. Originally, a site near the zoo was planned. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , however, a conscious decision was made to locate it in the eastern part of the city . 2.1 million euros of the total construction costs of 4.5 million euros were raised from public funds. The rest comes from sponsors.

The garden of the regained moon was planned and laid out by the Beijing Institute for Classical Landscape Gardening , which in 1997 sent two landscape architects and 18 gardeners to Marzahn for three years. A large part of the material required for the garden, in particular architectural parts, marble , rocks and furniture, was imported from China in 20 sea containers . Only the plants come partly from Germany, but only species native to China were used. The official opening of the garden took place on October 15, 2000.

The name Garden of the Regained Moon was chosen by the Chinese and is supposed to allude to the achievement of German unity in 1990.

The garden extends over an area of approximately 2.7  hectares . The central element is a kidney-shaped pond crossed by a zigzag bridge. The following buildings are also located in the park:

  • "Berghaus zum Osmanthussaft" tea house located directly by the pond . There are 30 different types of tea as well as tea art demonstrations on offer.
  • Entrance hall
  • Small hall on the northern bank of the pond
  • Stone boat . It was built after the famous model in the Beijing Summer Palace and can be rented for wedding ceremonies.
  • Tsingtau pavilion with drinks kiosk
  • Elevated octagonal pavilion with a panoramic view of the entire site.

In addition, a multitude of plants, bushes, rocks, stones, waterfalls, characters and the like are distributed in the park. Their arrangement was by no means left to chance; rather, it reflects diverse references, in particular to the Chinese symbolic language.
