Gary Ronald Honey (born July 26, 1959 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian athlete who specialized in the long jump .
From 1979 to 1989 Honey was Australian Champion every year except 1980. He took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, but could not qualify for the final. At the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, he won the gold medal. The following year he finished sixth at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki .
At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Honey celebrated his most important sporting success of his career. With a width of 8.24 m he won the silver medal behind the American Carl Lewis (8.54 m). Third placed Italian Giovanni Evangelisti also jumped 8.24 m, so that the second longest jump of the two athletes had to decide the ranking. Here Honey was eight inches ahead of Evangelisti.
Honey won his last international medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, where he successfully defended his title. With a height of 1.83 m, he had a competition weight of 70 kg and started for the Ivanhoe Harriers Athletic Club .
