Gary L. Stevens

Gary L. Stevens (born August 21, 1941 in McMinnville , Oregon ) is an American politician and Senator in the Alaska Senate since 2003.

Stevens attended Linfield College , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1963 , and studied at the University of Oregon . There Stevens received his Masters (MFA) in 1965 . He then attended the University of California, Los Angeles from 1965 to 1966 before serving in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. 1975-1996 Stevens was a professor at Kodiak College of the University of Alaska . In 1984 he had a doctor's degree Ph. D. received at the University of Oregon.

His political career began as the mayor of Kodiak Island Borough . From 1976 to 1978 he was a member of the City Council of Kodiak and was mayor of the city from 1978 to 1979. He then served from 1989 to 1992 and from 1994 to 1996 Member of the Assembly ( Assembly ) of the Kodiak Borough Iceland. In his second term, Stevens was the Chairman of the Congregation from 1995 to 1996.

After Steven failed with a candidacy for a seat in the Alaska Senate in 1996 and with a candidacy for a seat in the Alaska House of Representatives in 1998, he was elected as a Republican to the Alaska House of Representatives in 2000 and was there from 2001 until his appointment as Senator MP. In February 2003 he moved to the Alaska Senate to fill the vacant seat of Alan Austerman and has been a Senator ever since.

Stevens is married with three children, a son and two daughters. He lives with his family in Kodiak, Alaska.
