The Moringen gasometer is the oldest extant telescopic gasometer in Lower Saxony.

In 1906 a gas works was built in Moringen . The gas generated here was temporarily stored in the 400 cubic meter gas tank. The iron bell gas tank, which was built by Berlin-Anhaltische Maschinenbau AG, is free-standing. Use was discontinued in 1965 due to the switch to long-distance gas.

In the 21st century, the container shell and lid, damaged by corrosion, had to be renovated. In 2006 a transparent roof was installed on which a small photovoltaic system was installed. The restoration work was honored in 2008 with a prize for monument preservation from the Lower Saxony Sparkasse Foundation.
