Gasperini Syndrome

The Gasperini's syndrome is a very rare brain stem syndrome (alternating Pons - Syndrome ) due to a lesion caudal the bridge hood with the main features of an ipsilateral paralysis of the III. to XII. Cranial nerve and contralateral sensitivity disorder .

In the current medical literature, the term is used for the combination of ipsilateral (equilateral) lesion of the 5th to 7th cranial nerve with contralateral (on the opposite side) unilateral hypoesthesia .

The term bridge hood syndrome is used synonymously .

The name refers to the author of the first description from 1912 by the Italian doctor Ubaldo Gasperini .

Clinical manifestations

The clinic is based on the existing nerve deficits, s. V. trigeminal nerve (triple nerve ), VI. · Abducens (Augenabziehnerv) and VII. Facial nerve (facial nerve).

The cause is usually a heart attack or bleeding in the pons.
