Gaston Gaudard

Gaston-Louis Gaudard (born July 12, 1933 in Freiburg im Üechtland ; † December 27, 2012 in Givisiez ) was a Swiss economist.

Life

Gaston Gaudard studied economics and social sciences in Freiburg, Geneva and London. In 1957 he received his doctorate in economics and social sciences in Friborg and in 1964 in political sciences in Geneva. In 1965 he completed his habilitation in Freiburg with a thesis on international economics.

He initially taught geography in German at the St. Michael College , where he passed the Matura himself. After his habilitation in 1965, Gaudard was appointed associate professor in 1966 and associate professor in 1967 at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Freiburg . From 1970 until his retirement in 2003 he was a full professor for international and regional economics. He was visiting professor at the universities in Lausanne and Lugano. In 1982 he founded the Research Center for Regional Economics at the University of Freiburg (CRESUF). He was vice-president of the Association internationale des économistes de langue française . He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss National Science Foundation (FNRS).

From 1975 to 1979 Gaston Gaudard was rector of the University of Freiburg.

He published over 350 scientific publications.
