Johann Steinnus

Johann Steinnus (born February 18, 1861 in Urbar , † August 10, 1924 in Cologne ) was a German stonemason .

Life

Johann Steinnus grew up in Urbar near Koblenz and went to school there. From 1877 to 1880 he trained as a stonemason with his father Johann Hubert Steinnus (1837-1884), who ran his uncle J. Spiegel's stonemason business in Cologne. In 1882 he passed the master craftsman examination in Cologne. On August 30, 1883, he married Maria Katharina Wagner, with whom he had six sons and four daughters. In 1885 he was able to take over and expand the stonemason workshop run by his father. The handicraft business was located at Aachener Strasse 21. Several branches of his company have been handed down along Aachener Strasse.

In addition to the Melaten cemetery , which he mainly furnished with grave monuments, he worked in all cemeteries in Cologne. Since he owned his own wagons , he delivered tombs as far as the Eifel . His activity also extended to the ashlar processing of facades in Cologne residential buildings. His sons Martin (painter and sculptor) and Wilhelm (master stonemason) took over the business after the death of their father, which is still run in the sixth generation in the immediate vicinity of the Melaten cemetery.
