Castle
In the vicinity of the modern place are the ruins of a Templar castle of the same name . The castle is located on a rocky outcrop on the northern edge of Famagusta Bay ; only sparse remains of it are preserved today.
In 1210 the Templars established themselves in Gastria. In 1279 King Hugo III destroyed it. all buildings of the Templars because of their support for Karl von Anjou . In 1312 or 1313 the Johanniter took over the castle after the Knights Templar had been dissolved. Remnants of walls were found under the ruins of the Johanniter Castle, which are attributed to the older Templar fortifications.
