The Moorburg gas turbine power plant was a heating oil -fired gas turbine power plant in the Moorburg district of Hamburg . The power plant was in operation from 1980 until it was dismantled in 2009.

The power plant was one of five gas turbine power plants operated by Vattenfall Europe . It went into operation in 1980 with a nominal output of twice 76 MW. Type V93.2 gas turbines from Kraftwerk Union (KWU) were used. HEL was used as fuel , of which 25,000 liters per hour per turbine were burned under full load . The combustion heat output was 267 MW per turbine, which resulted in a net efficiency of 29%. The gas turbines were able to start quickly, so that it was possible to connect the system to the grid within 7.5 minutes. The basic output was available after about 15 minutes.

The coal-fired power station Moorburg was built at the same location . The gas turbine power plant was shut down and dismantled in 2009 to make room for a planned hybrid cooling tower for the new building.
